How To Join An Adult Verification Service

Adult Verification Services (AVS) were started as a response to laws limiting who could access adult internet sites.

Some AVS sites are larger or have less advertising than their free counterparts, so you may want to consider joining one.

Here's How:

1. Take a look at a few AVS services before you decide which to buy. Look at their member site lists.

2. Sign up from a site you want to support. Sites only make money if you sign up through them, not if you visit them after signing up.

3. Don't sign up for a lifetime membership. Many AVS services have already died, and if they die, so does your lifetime membership.

4. Be aware that sites can switch to a different AVS, leaving you unable to get in.

5. The widely advertised free trial for the Sex Key AVS signs you up for another recurring payment site. Beware, you have to go to some trouble to cancel this.

6. Read the fine print in the agreements.

Tips:

1. Consider Adult Check which is the largest AVS. Note that Adult Check Gold is different from Adult Check and has many fewer member sites.

2. Some terrible sites join just to get traffic from the AVS lists. Don't expect AVS sites to necessarily be better than free sites.

Adult Verification Service Traps

The Problem
You think that signing up for an AVS is the legal thing to do.

The Solution
Forget about it. The law isn't enforcable yet and anyway it's the sites that have these legal worries.

The Reasons They Do It
The site doesn't have to have a merchant credit card account to make money from AVS signups. They get some extra traffic from the list of sites at the AVS. You've already gotten out your wallet so you're a better prospect for other sales pitches.

The Problem
A site looks good and you need an AVS to get in.

The Solution
Take another look. Make sure you are really getting a good idea of what's there, such as the number of photos and their size, etc. Go to the AVS and take a look at the other sites in their service if this is what attracted you. See if the AVS appears to have good contact information in case of any problems.

The Reasons They Do It
Sites spend a lot of effort on making the "sales pitch" page sound great. The original signup is the only time they make AVS money.

The Problem
You signed up for one AVS but the site switched to another.

The Solution
Don't count on the site staying with a particular AVS. All you can do is sign up for another or use the other sites the AVS still has accounts with. A further reason to check out how good and numerous the sites for an AVS look before you sign up.

The Reasons They Do It
New prospects don't care and they may get a few new signups from the old members who like the site.

The Problem
You signed up for a lifetime AVS service but they disappeared.

The Solution
Be especially wary of lifetime memberships. Expect the site or the AVS service to die before you. Not many have gone under so far, but the whole AVS system may be replaced eventually.

The Reasons They Do It
Lifetime memberships pay more and have the greatest apppeal for some people.
