How to dispute a credit card charge?

Internet porn sites in particular seem to have clever ways of charging you when you didn't intend to buy anything. You don't have to pay, and here's how to do it.

Adult web sites: Here's How:

1. Find the disputed charge on your credit card bill. It is referred to as a "billing error."

2. You can subtract this amount from your payment. This is optional and won't affect the dispute.

3. You can attempt to resolve the disputed charge with the merchant. This is optional for merchandise you didn't order or didn't receive.

4. Within 60 days of when the credit card bill was mailed, send a dispute letter to the credit card company.

5. In the dispute letter write your name, address, account number, the "billing error" charge you are disputing and why.

6. Enclose copies of any documents you have that support your case, such as letters to the merchant, sign-up agreements, etc.

7. Save a copy of your dispute letter.

8. Send it to the address given on the credit card bill for "billing inquiries," not where you send your payment.

9. Send it by certified mail and request a return receipt.

10. Within 30 days the credit card company must respond.

11. Within 90 days they must resolve it.

Tips:

1. If the credit card company misses any of the deadlines (#10 or #11 above), they may not collect even if the charges are correct.

2. Don't bother to call the credit card company. You have to follow up with a letter anyway to preserve your rights, so it will just take more of your time.

3. Problems with the quality of goods or services are not "billing errors." You still have remedies but the rules and procedures are somewhat different.

What appears on my credit card if I subscribe to a porn site?

Most of the major porn sites use well respected credit card authorising companies.

These companies include Paycom.net, iBill.com and CCbill These company's systems link direct with all the major payment processing systems meaning they process the credit card request without the webmasters ever seeing your credit card details.

This is an ultra secure process. It is done this way to protect you, the porn site provider and traffic providers who all need a trusted third party to handle the transactions. When you get to the signup page for a site your session is transferred to the payment processor and is as safe as any Internet transaction.

We check out sites we review for security and dont include any that fail to meet our standards.

Thankfully, what appears on your credit card statement is usually the name of the company who process the transaction, either Paycom.net or iBill.com, so there is no need to worry that the site name or similar will appear on your credit card statement.

Is it true that only the banks see my credit card details, not webmasters?

Yes it is true.

The major porn sites are all run by multi-million dollar publishing companies who are committed to stopping fraud. As such they run all their credit card transactions through major payment processing companies eg Paycom.net or iBill.com.

When you enter your credit card details they are sent directly to these companies, these companies then let the website involved know whether your credit card was accepted or rejected. So at no point do the adult webmasters ever see your credit card details.
